Get to Know Southport
Located in beautiful Fairfax County, Virginia, the Southport community began development in the early 1980s and is now the location for 220 single-family homes. Our neighboring communities include Lake Braddock, Signal Hill, and Kings Park.
FUN FACT: Our community was once designated as part of the new, suburban Washington DC international airport. The local citizens, though, weren’t at all happy and, after voicing their displeasure, the airport was moved to it’s current location where it’s known to all of us as Dulles International Airport. Can you imaging Dulles airport in Burke, VA? It certainly would change what we see in our backyards!
Living in Southport is also quite convenient regardless of your mode of transportation. Two shopping centers (Kings Park and Burke Village Center), our local library (Kings Park), the local volunteer fire department, and the post office are just a mile away.
School-age children attending public school attend either Ravensworth Elementary (for grades K-6) or Lake Braddock Secondary (for grades 7-12). Southport families are fortunate to live in one of the finest schools districts in the country. The Fairfax County Public Schools district is renowned as not only one of the best in the country but is also the 10th largest districts in the United States serving nearly 190,000 students and their families.
Public transportation is also very accessible with multiple Metrobus and Fairfax Connector bus routes accessible from Burke Lake Road. Also easily accessible is the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) for those commuting into the Crystal City, VA or Washington, DC areas.
Finding our community is simple:
From the North/South/East:
Take the Capital Beltway (I-495) to the Braddock Road West exit and proceed two miles where you’ll turn left onto Burke Lake Road. Proceed another mile and turn left onto Lake Braddock Drive.
From the West:
Take I-66 East to exit 55 for the Fairfax County Parkway. Take the South exit and South exit and proceed 8 miles where you’ll turn left at the light for Burke Lake Road. Follow Burke Lake Rd for 2.5 miles and turn right onto Lake Braddock Drive.
Once on Lake Braddock Drive, you’ll see our subdivision marker welcoming you to the Southport community.

When you’re ready to submit your changes, please open an Application for Lot Improvement or Addition using the form below. After obtaining the proper signatures, please either mail or deliver two copies of the completed form to:

Michael Bender
President
Hello, I am Michael Bender, your Southport Home Owner Association, Vice President. I volunteered to support SHOA as I felt it important to understand the issues of the community, as well as promote neighbors being neighborly. I am a husband, father, 30-year Air Force Veteran, and current federal employee. I enjoy jogging, walks with the family, and a good action movie.
Patrick Carpizo
Vice President
Patrick is an active duty service member in the U.S. Air Force serving as a Strategic Logistics Planner to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Originally from California, he and his wife, Marie, and three children moved to Southport in 2017. Patrick joined the Board this spring and, with his wife and three children, Isaiah, Noah, and Coram they enjoy the outdoors and love hiking, running, and playing sports.
Jennifer Farris
Director, At Large
A native of Western New York, Jennifer came with her husban, Prescott, and their two boys to the northern Virginia area in 2013 and moved to Southport in the summer of 2016. Jennifer began serving on Southport’s Board in 2016 as Vice President before taking the reins as President in May, 2020. She enjoys gardening and volunteering in the community.

Chris Seidel
Treasurer
Chris Seidel is a New York native who came to DC in 1996 to work on Capitol Hill. He’s currently the Executive Director of Cyber Services for Millennium Engineering and Integration. Chris joined the Southport community in 2012 with his wife, Emily, and their two daughters and began serving as our Treasurer in 2019. When not hanging out on Cork Place, the fam likes to get away to their cabin in the Shenandoah Valley.

Chris Lewis

Chris is a native resident of northern Virginia and a graduate of Fairfax County Public Schools and the University of Virginia. He and his wife Kate have two children, Kara and Grayson, and joined our Southport community in the spring of 2002. Chris took on the task to revamp the Website this spring and hopes to bring even more functionality, information, and convenience to the Website inthe coming months.
